Officially Open
Charleston, SC

Atelier may seem more daunting to pronounce than Ralph Lauren, the previous occupants of 153 King Street, but we are confident that you won't feel intimidated in our gallery.

Atelier, pronounced [atuh-lYAY], is a French word which conveys the idea of a workshop or studio space specifically for an artist or designer. While you may feel our newly opened Charleston location is a bit of work in progress --Yes, we know everyone wants to go up the roped-off stairs, be patient; we have great visions for this lofty space! – the meaning is more than just descriptive.

Atelier Galleries wants people who stroll in after a meal on King Street or those who are regular patrons to feel that art is approachable and interactive. Our belief is that one should not merely see art, but get a taste for differing styles, be inspired by something a bit unusual and become a participant and admirer of the creative process. A quick walk around the gallery should help with the first two, and plans to involve patrons in a creative workshop environment are underway.

Our focus at Atelier is showcasing, supporting and promoting a variety of artists. Upon entering the gallery one sees canvases, jewelry, and pottery ranging from low country locals to Pennsylvanians. Each artist has their own unique array of talents and techniques which is evident in subject matter, encompassing everything from sweeping landscapes to playful abstract compositions, and in mediums such as ceramics, wood, metal and glass.

We are excited to be located in a thriving historic city with classical traditions in the arts, but which is also home to an emerging new generation of artists.

Artist bios, images of artwork, and event info coming soon!
